I am a 26 year-old mother of my beautiful 2 year-old son Khalil. He is my pride and joy and always makes me laugh. I aspire to be a great journalist. I really just aspire to be whatever God has planned for me. Slowly but surely I am climbing. I hope that my experiences will motivate not intimidate, uplift and not put down. Its okay to make mistakes, how else are you going to learn?

If yo' money ain't right, then you don't get an invite!!!

Okay, so maybe I was the last to see CNN's Black In America 2 but so what. if you have not had a chance to see it...SEE IT. Particularly the segment that highlights Dr. Carlotta Miles, a prominent female African American psychiatrist and Washington socialite. Dr. Miles is highly respected in her field and in the circle of the ‘black elite’. She is the progenator and moderator of Washington D.C.’s prestigious Tuxedo Ball, held to connect affluent black youth with powerful and successful black personalities.

Now, let me be real clear before I get any haters. I am in no way putting down Dr. Miles' efforts to create networking opportunities for African American youth. That is excellent. But why is this event only for the elite? There are so many youth who work hard, excel in college and their careers but were not born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Don't they deserve the same opportunities to chat and mingle with prominent African American figures? Well according to Dr. Miles, if yo money ain't right, you don't get an invite. (even if you have the credentials. Ph. D, MD, JD, or MBA)
